We have our first look at what some of the WYD venues will be like. To the left is a schematic that shows the layout for Barangaroo, where the opening Mass and Papal Welcome ceremony will take place. It's a former industrial/shipping center that's being transformed into an area that will be able to hold upwards of 200,000 people. In the center, near the harbor, you'll see the stage/altar.
On the right is a first look at what the stage/altar at Barangaroo will look like. Pilgrims will become familiar with the image of the white bird - an indigenous image known as "Marjorie's Bird" that is said to represent the Holy Spirit.
Finally, here's a photograph of the roof being put in place above the altar at Randwick Racecourse, where Saturday evening's vigil and Sunday's final Mass will take place. The sanctuary will accommodate 500 cardinals and bishops, a 300-member WYD08 choir, and an 80-piece orchestra.
